Yongshun County in the northwestern part of Hunan Province, where Laosicheng Site is located, is one of the most important birthplaces of Tujia ethnic groups and the center of their politics, economy, culture and military. The population of 450,000 Tujia ethnic groups is 86% of the total population (530,000) of Yongshun County.
Folk customs and heritages of Yongshun County have ancient and mysterious origins, and most residents have kept their traditional customs in daily life for over one thousand years. These customs became National Cultural Heritage in 2015, including Baishou Dance, Maogusi Dance, Daliuzi, Tujia Brocade Technique, Tujia New Year and other heritages.
