13th “Chinese Bridge” Competition Concludes with Brazil Winner

      The finals of the 13th Chinese Bridge—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students were held on August 3, in Changsha City, Hunan, which marked a happy ending of the one-month competition. Xu Jialu, former vice chairman of the standing committee of National People’s Congress (NPC), Xu Shousheng, secretary of Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee and Du Jiahao, governor of Hunan Province, presented the awards for winners.

      Xu Lin, counselor of the state council, director-general of the Confucius institute headquarters, along with Hunan Provincial leaders Xu Yousheng, Han Yongwen, Liu Lianyu, Li Youzhi and Ou Yangbin attended the Award Ceremony.

      From July to August this year, 126 outstanding college students from 87 countries and 110 regions got together in Changsha City to compete in the tests of the 13th “Chinese Bridge” Competition. Brazil contestant Shi Moli from South America won the Championship. Korea player Cheng Weixian, Russian player Lei Mingda, Zimbabwe Ma Mingyuan, Australian player Luo Lianna won the state championship of Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia respectively.

      The 13th “Chinese Bridge” Competition has a history of 13 years, which has achieved remarkable results. “I hope ‘Chinese Bridge’ Competition will pass down generation after generation," said Xu Jialu, “different countries should communicate with each other in culture, so that the global culture will be more brilliant."

      “The 13th 'Chinese Bridge' Competition connects the five continents, and it plays an important role in facilitating the communication of different people, language and culture, so as to promoting the world peace and human harmony,” said Xu.

       As an international Chinese proficiency competition, the Chinese Bridge Contest is sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Since the first session in 2002, the competition has been held for 12 sessions and attracted more than 300,000 college students around the world to showcase themselves in the preliminary matches, among which over 1,000 college students from more than 80 countries have been invited to China for the finals. The competition tests the contestants’ Chinese language abilities, knowledge of China’s condition and skills of Chinese culture, as well as their comprehensive learning ability. The "Chinese bridge" competition has become an important national platform for college students to learn Chinese and understand China.
