In Tang Dynasty, there were two big markets, Eastern Market and Western Market, in Chang’an city, the capital city of ancient China. Eastern Market served for high officials and noble lords; whereas, Western Market served for average people. Both two markets were international ones, where a great number of merchants and customers were from western countries and Japan. Western Market occupied 267 acres with 1 million square meters of architectures, which contained 220 different types of services and products in more than 40,000 stores; therefore, it was called as Golden Market that was the biggest market in the world at that period of time.The task of six contestants from America was being shopkeepers in the stores of Datang market to sell serval merchandise. These contestants divided in three stores selling silk, grilled naan, and Terra cotta warriors toys. Three judges, Yu Entai ( an actor), Xu Zidong (a famous scholar) and Liu Na ( a hostess of Hunan TV) watched every move of the contestants in a monitoring room .
Gao Minglang from Canada and Bai Qiancheng from U.S. came to a silk store to learn the knowledge of silk and how to work as shopkeepers. Ma Xiaolang and Bai Ke from U.S. took over the job of selling toasted Naan. Su Moli from Brazil and Jose from Ecuador tried to sell a few crafts in a Terra cotta warrior store.
Contestants used all kinds of methods to attract people’s attention. The judges scored them according to their use of Chinese, and top three of them could access the final and entering top 15 contestants. The other three also won judge’s approval.
So far, top 15 winners came out of all 30 semifinal winners , and they will arrive at Jingdezhen City, in Jiangxi Province for the next round of game .
