On July 8, the 13th Chinese Bridge -- Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students entered its intermediary competition stage. The host of China Central Television (CCTV) Xu Li, the international Chinese promotion ambassador Jullien Gaudfroy, and Executive Deputy Director of the Department of Oriental Studies of Saint Petersburg State University and Dean of Confucius Institute Rodionov Aleksei were appointed as judges. A total of 45 contestants from Asia and Oceania competed for a spot in the competition.
Contestants first went through a 90-second competition, and then a 30-second talent show, winning judges' praise by singing, imitating hosts, playing guitar, and showing a tongue twister performance.
Eventually, eight contestants -- Huang Jinling (Cambodia), Xu Qingqing (Indonesia), Yong Ding (Mongolia), Tao Peijun (Myanmar), Zheng Zupeng (Singapore), Mi Li (Israel), Cheng Weixian (Korea), and Li Na (Jordan) from Asia group, as well as four contestants of the Oceania group including Luo Lianna, Li Zhiyuan, Shi Chard, and Ren Liming were selected for the finals.
