The Chinese government is willing to encourage domestic companies to invest in Spain as thetwo countries are seeking to boost bilateral ties, President Xi Jinping said on Monday.
Xi made the remarks while meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy during thesidelines of the ongoing G20 summit in Hangzhou.
The two countries should make full use of the Yiwu-Madrid cargo train to continuously enlargetrade volume, Xi said, adding that the people-to-people exchanges and local-levelcommunication should also be strengthened.
Xi called on both sides to support and understand each other on issues related to their coreinterests.
The Chinese president spoke highly of the Spanish government's support toward the Belt andRoad Initiative, saying the two countries should cooperate more in areas such as finance,telecommunication and renewable resources.
China hopes and supports the European Union to remain stable and prosperous, Xi said, addingthat Spain as expected to play a positive role in improving the China-Spain relationship.
Spain spoke positively of China's efforts in dealing with current economic challenges, Rajoy said,adding that Spain supported China to host a successful G20 summit in Hangzhou.
Spain is willing to enhance communication with China and develop trade, investment, culture andeducation, he added.
